    Function / Position Summary
    To provide knowledge, motivation and leadership in an interscholastic sport in which the student can excel to his full potential while competing in an atmosphere that adds to their total education including their physical well-being, moral character, and social and mental development.
    Job Duties / Responsibilities
    The head coach is expected to provide the necessary leadership and to plan, organize, and be responsible for a comprehensive interscholastic football program, and to carry out the objectives of the total school athletic program.
    • Direct and leads a coaching staff- Monitor assignments and duties of assistant and lower level coaches and annually evaluate all coaches.
    • Design and implement an organizational structure that reports to the Athletic Director.
    • Expected to maintain effective communication with athletes, school administration, staff, students, parents and the community.
    • Maintain good public relations with media, boosters, parents, officials, players, fans, etc.
    • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, staff, and school administration.
    • Assume responsibility for inventory, selection and care of equipment.
    • Responsible for the supervision of all students under their care.
    • Build and sustain a successful program that is widely supported and respected by the High School staff and community at large.
    • Work effectively with student athletes of varying abilities, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds to instill commitment, discipline, and teamwork.
    • The Head Varsity Football Coach is responsible for the all levels of the program (Sophomore and Freshmen) level programs.
    • Collaborate with the Athletic Director for all fundraising activities and maintain accurate records of monies collected and deposited in compliance with District policy and procedures.
    • Requires that all prior experience as an athletic coach in School District U-46 or previous school districts resulted in positive conduct and no disciplinary action.
    • Coordinate pre-season parent meetings for all levels of sports to review scholastic eligibility requirements, athletic code of conduct, team rules, injury prevention, and inherent risks of the sport.
    • Responsible for time required for off-season, summer and in-season practice and competition.
    • Assist the Athletic Director in selecting assistant coaches.
    • Stay abreast of students' academic eligibility and work with teachers and administration to help keep students eligible.
    • Provide game results to the media; keep season and game-by-game statistics and records; provide statistical reports to the Athletic Director as needed and/or requested.
    Education
    • Head Football Coaching experience required or professional coaching/player level equivalent.
    • A verifiable record of having been part of a winning tradition, including post season playoff competition as coach is preferred.
    • Previous successful football coaching experience at a varsity level/professional level during the previous four years.
    • Proper certification with American Sport Education Program and/or Valid Illinois Teaching certificate.
    • Varsity level coaches are expected to have had previous successful varsity coaching experience and experience in playing the sport at the collegiate or high school level.
    Experience / Knowledge
    • Inform parents and student/athletes regarding NCAA clearing house registration deadlines and academic requirements, etc.
    • Encourage athletes to take PSAT, SAT, and ACT in order to prepare for college.
    • Assist the Athletic Director in developing game schedules, practice schedules, facilities use, transportation needs, and the program budget.
    • Submit a written annual end of season program evaluation with recommendations for improvements to the Athletic Director.
    • Responsible for submissions of request to purchase equipment, supplies and uniforms as needed, to the Athletic Director.
    • Facilitate the long-term success and viability of the program by establishing positive relationships with local athletics organizations and K-8 sports programs.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to implement effective coaching theory, strategies, and techniques appropriate for high school athletes.
    • Requires a proven verifiable record of placing appropriate emphasis on good sportsmanship, academic excellence, positive attitudes, and character.
    Physical Demands
    • This work involves standing for long periods of time and may involve walking or standing for extended periods of time.
    • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, manual dexterity to operate sports related equipment, and handles and works with various materials/objects.
    • Able to work in a wide variety of temperatures and weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors; including extreme high temperature conditions outdoors.
    Terms of Employment
    • Seasonal position, term of employment is determined by IHSA approved athletic calendar and school district policy.
    • Sport Season (August - November)
    • Student opportunities will either remain the same, not be offered, or require modification to adjust to environmental restrictions.
    • Positions and stipends will also be adjusted to reflect these changes.
    • For Non ETA Coaches: this position is for the upcoming season only.
